Dr. Petrina D. Leitz

Therapist, LMFT

Petrina is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in the states of California, Iowa, and Colorado. She has a Master of Arts degree in Counseling Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, and an Educational Doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University.

Dr. Leitz began her work in mental health as a school-based therapist with an emphasis working with children with pervasive developmental disabilities. This led to a work in child welfare in San Bernardino County California. In 2016, Dr. Leitz relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, and began to work in community mental health as a clinician, recognizing the importance of cultural competency in practice. As a clinician, she values the importance of the relationship and humor in the therapeutic process.

Dr. Leitz has over ten years of experience working with adolescents, adults, and families struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, autism, mood disorders, eating disorders, and trauma. She utilizes several theoretical orientations including, solution focused, CBT, and DBT. She is also certified Level 1 in Pivotal Response Training for Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Dr. Leitz is passionate about eating disorders and wrote her dissertation on the subject. She plans to become designated as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) through the International Academy of Eating Disordered Professionals (IADEP).
